Texas Hosts Cattle Selection and Judging Course
Just days before the world-renowned Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Texas became the global epicenter for Brahman cattle excellence with the Bilingual Brahman Cattle Selection and Judging Course, held February 28 and March 1.
The program took place in Groveton at Rancho Casaray, and on its second day in Hungerford at Heritage Cattle Co., two leading operations that reflect the strength, tradition, and genetic influence of the Brahman breed in its place of origin.
The event, organized by Brahman Friends and FLG Agrisolutions, brought together participants from across the Americas for an intensive, hands-on educational experience focused on evaluation, functional selection, and the future of Brahman cattle in the global beef industry. A highlight of the course was the participation of prominent American cattlemen and educators, including renowned judge and breeder Judd Cullers, who hosted the day at Heritage Cattle Co., and Dr. Joe Paschal, one of the most respected academic voices in cattle evaluation and selection.
At Casaray Ranch, the program is led by Dr. César Castro, a Venezuelan veterinarian and international Brahman breeder whose program has produced national
and international champions in the United States. His farm in Groveton has become a benchmark for progressive Brahman genetics and a bridge between North and Latin America.
The international panel also included prominent Colombian cattle professionals Julio Gutiérrez, Fernanda Linares, and Jorge Silva, whose experience in tropical production systems provides a valuable practical perspective on breed selection and functional efficiency.
